Parking & Orders

Decriminalised parking enforcement started in the 1990s, but now the Traffic Management Act promises to involve local authorities also in moving traffic infringements. Managing both these tasks requires a comprehensive record of traffic orders and the signs and markings that communicate them to the road user.

For 10 years Buchanan Computing has been the clear leader in mapping the UK’s on-street parking controls, with ParkMap a byword for best practice in this field. Our expertise in tailoring software to the specific needs of those involved with traffic orders and enforcement saves countless hours for hundreds of local authority users.

ParkMap is unique in linking the legal orders (whether text or map-based) and order-making process to a GIS inventory of the markings and signs that give effect to those measures. It deals efficiently with processes such as amendment orders, revocations and consolidations, minimising data entry work and providing a painless method for keeping the permanent inventory updated. Despite its name, ParkMap caters also for moving traffic orders, such as speed limits, bus lanes and banned turns, as well as zonal restrictions.

ParkMap links with all other TraffMap systems, but integrates particularly closely with LineMap and SignPlot for creating and showing the correct road marking and sign plate designs for new and existing restrictions.

Parking surveys

Also relevant to parking is SurveyMap, our system for recording and managing surveys of on-street parking demand, and MicroMatch, for analysing both parking beat and car park registration plate surveys.
