Passively safe support design

Passively safe support design

With Eurocode EN 12899 and new passive safety requirements, it has become increasingly complicated for traffic sign designers to specify safe, but economical, post sizes and other structural elements.

SignLoad greatly simplifies the process.

BENEFITS

• Ensures compliance with both EN 12899-1 and EN 12767 for any part of UK or ROI

• Identifies the most economical design, or checks your choice

• Simple to use, quick and accurate

• Includes economical ‘planted’ foundations

FEATURES

• Designs steel and passively-safe sign supports, including asymmetrical arrangements

• Designs sign face stiffening (channel section spacing) for all major suppliers and substrates

• Checks for Passive Safety compliance to BS EN 12767:2007

• Covers the full range of sign sizes, and types of post

• Displays and prints solid colour sign images

• Designs spread or planted foundations

Sign Support design

SignLoad is a stand-alone version of the traffic sign structural calculation module from SignPlot – the UK's most widely used system for traffic sign design.

It is very easy to use – just enter the sign dimensions, its mounting height and click the Suggest section button. Then click the Print button if you are happy with the result.

If the supports are not symmetrically placed, click the Arrangement button, and just drag the supports where you want them.

Built-in calculations

The program checks for design load and temporary deflection (bending, torsion and their combined effect). It considers both wind load and a point load in accordance with the new National Annex to BS EN 12899-1:2007, for any part of the UK, or Irish standard TS4.

SignLoad takes into account relevant parts of the wind actions Eurocode, BS EN 1991-1-4:2005 and its draft UK National Annex, and either BS 8004 or Highways Agency standard BD94/07 for foundation design.

SignLoad Designer

The free Designer version of SignLoad includes:

• Wind load determination using BS EN 12899 National Annex

• Sign support design using circular and rectangular steel sections.

• Asymmetrical support positions

• Detailed printout with dimensioned drawing

• Passive safety check

SignLoad Professional

The Professional version adds the following features:

• Sign support design using Lattix, Jerol or 3M passively-safe sections

• Channel spacing using sections supplied by SignPost Solutions, Rennicks, Blackburns or ASD, and aluminium, steel, GRP and composite sign substrate.

• Divide the sign into any size of vertical modules with the appropriate interlocking channels being selected when required

• Configure the printout and change the choice of sections and products offered

• Foundation design made simple for spread or planted footings

LINKS TO SIGNPLOT

SignPlot contains an integrated copy of SignLoad. Using these two systems together, the sign face and its dimensions are automatically included in the SignLoad calculations and dimensioned drawing, and the results can be included on the standard printed drawing. The structural details are stored in the SignPlot file.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

SignLoad runs under all recent and current versions of Microsoft Windows, including Vista, sending output to any connected printer or to a PDF driver.
