“Holly the Hedgehog” is in SignPlot within 30 minutes of her arrival!

DfT announced today a new warning sign to advise drivers of the possibility of wild mammals in the road ahead. It depicts a hedgehog affectionally known as Holly and will be available for any authority in England to use on their roads on application to DfT.

The announcement has not yet gone out to subscribers to the DfT TAL (Traffic Advisory Leaflet) list, but appeared today in a DfT press release. By 10.00 the accurate symbol, good enough for sign manufacture was on the Buchanan Computing website for SignPlot users to download.

How was this feat possible? Well only because Buchanan Computing had helped DfT with the digitising of this symbol, so had it ready to release. DfT had determined the shape of the symbol (and indeed its name), but Buchanan Computing were responsible for translating the CAD drawing into a solid colour image, suitable for exporting to EPS format for sign manufacture and for publishing.
